Skincare Routine

I think we can safely say that from time to time our skincare routine can fall to pieces as we get busy with ‘life’ and find excuses that we have no time look after ourselves. I have definitely learnt more recently from experience that when things get a little busier with work and you are feeling everyday pressures from all angles they tend to appear on your face (not ideal!). So the last few months I have really upped my skincare game, taking time to give my skin a breather, but also looking after it both morning and night.

MORNING ROUTINE
I used to skip a lot of steps in the morning just because I thought I never had enough time, but what I was doing was setting my skin up for failure right from the start and then layering making on top!

To start my day fresh faced I use Clinique Pep-Start Bubble Mask, a 2 minute mask that bubbles and removes any oil, dirt or debris (even from your skin care routine the night before). This always wakes me up first thing in the morning. Next up is the Clinique Clarifying Lotion (I use number 2 for dry to combination skin) to really get rid of any dry skin and make sure I am free from any excess oil. Then I give my skin a drink of the Superfood Facial Oil from Elemis, which literally smells like a green juice so you know it’s going to be good for you and make your skin glow! Moisturiser is next, and if you have been following me for a while now you would know I am completely obsessed with Clinique Moisture Surge 72-hour Auto Replenishing Hydrator. I swear by this product, its super light weight and gives your skin so much hydration and the best base for a dewy finish when you apply your foundation. Lastly I swap between two favourite eye creams, the Drunk Elephant C-Tango Multivitamin Eye Cream and the Origins Ginzing Refreshing Eye Cream, both provide an instant boost of brightness and hydration perfect to make you look more awake and protect your under eyes before applying concealer.

NIGHT ROUTINE
My night time routine has always been good, but I have more recently made some new additions which have made changes to my skin in a short amount of time. I couldn’t stress any more how important it is for a good skincare routine at night, the perfect time to let your skin breathe and repair overnight. Especially removing makeup, I think a lot of us have been guilty of washing our faces quickly and most likely not removing everything (or not even washing your face at all, naughty!), so here are my go to tips for squeaky clean skin.

Usually in the shower I will first use a makeup remover cloth (like the Makeup Eraser) to firstly remove the makeup on the surface of my skin. I have been a long time user of the Clinique Facial Soap Mild, and sometimes have been known to do a double cleanse, but since introducing the Nu Skin LumiSpa Cleanser I find it helps really cleanse and lightly exfoliates my skin, which over a couple of months has changed the texture of my skin incredibly. Again after cleansing I use the Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2 and follow this up with another Elemis ProCollagen Marine Oil that is loaded to give moisture replenishing hydration and reduce the appearance of fine lines (can never start too early!). Also as well as my favourite moisturiser again the Clinique Moisture Surge 72-hour Auto Replenishing Hydrator, my skin is left feeling super dewy and ready to suck it all up! Lastly, a little treat for my under eyes I use the La Mer The Eye Balm Intense (as the one pictured is now been discontinued). Ok,  I admit this is super expensive but with the silver applicator used to cool the skin I have bared touched the surface. Usually if I have done this routine a little prior to going to bed it has usually all soaked up so I love to use the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate (and have for years). It is amazing just before jumping into bed, as it smells of lavender and just makes you instantly relaxed!
