The monochrome era returned with a vengeance and I couldn’t be more in love because it’s here to stay. But black and white (or all black) can sometimes border on boring so I have put together some of my top go to (best of) outfits that each have a little extra effort to make the outfit more interesting.
Tips for wearing monochrome:
1. Play up the silhouettes, items that are more figure hugging or loose. Change up the shape with a skinny leg jean or flares juxtaposed with an over sized shirt.
2. Choose pieces to flatter your figure, for example creating a waist, or the illusion of long legs with a high waist jean.
3. Create some interest, if your outfit is completely flat black or white there is no where for the eye to go. Use a point of differentiation with the use of multiple textures. Or wear a statement heel that will draw the eye down and then back up to the rest of the outfit.
4. Pull out your trusty plain t-shirt, it works with anything and everything within your wardrobe. All those pieces left in reserve for more fancy occasions can be made new again by pairing with a fresh black or white tee.
5. Layer, whether it be a coat or jacket or skirt over pants. The extra layer will create interest as well as texture.
6. Invest in statement pieces like a handbag or shoes, it will sure make any monochrome outfit that little bit more special.
7. Accessorize with jewellery, a neck tie or bandana.
